Nouman Azam

Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Science, National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences; Dr. Nouman Azam brings over a decade of experience in research and teaching. He researches on the areas of machine learning techniques in application areas such as bioinformatics, text summarization, text categorization, email filtering, security, recommender systems and medical decision making.

Academic all along, Nouman applied different machine learning techniques to select notable features in spam email filtering for his Master’s thesis, while for his doctoral thesis, he investigated the applications of machine learning techniques such as rough sets, game theory, genetic algorithms, gradient descent and others to learn and extract data patterns.

MATLAB has been Nouman's primary choice for implementing ideas and converting his code to meaningful software. In fact, he used this high-performance language to implement all the codes of his Masters and Doctoral thesis. His interests on the theoretical side include applying the theories of rough sets, game theory, optimization and conflict analysis to machine learning tasks.

He has been involved of late in teaching many machine learning-related courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
